A Brief History of The Rock
After 23 years of youth
ministry, Pastor Cliff and Wendy Williams felt led to plant a church in Nampa, and in 2002 moved
here, along with six other families, to start The Rock. Our Grand
Opening was Easter, 2003 at Roosevelt Elementary with over 100 in attendance.
We met in several different schools over the last few years, and we currently
meet at Nampa Christian School,
with an average attendance of 170 adults and 80 children on Sunday mornings.
Dusty
Benner, his wife Chandra, and their family,
joined The Rock staff in September 2006 as the Student Ministries
Pastor. Dusty and Chandra are are now leading a church plant
team in Boise, Idaho. Their new church, Sojourn Alliance Church,
is the first of what we hope are many churches planted out of The
Rock!
Jake
Williams has been on staff as the Children’s Pastor since January
2006, and works with the Rock Stars, our children's program.
Each year, we do several community outreaches,
including an Easter Egg Hunt, Water Giveaway at the Stampede Days parade, VBS,
and a Downtown Halloween Outreach. We have also sent many people in the last
few years on short-term missions to Mexico,
El Salvador, Africa, Chile, Seattle
and the L.A. Dream Center,
and partner with churches and/or the C&MA in many of those areas.
In the summer of 2006, we purchased 18 acres of
property on Happy Valley Road,
including an existing house and 2 large outbuildings. The church offices
operate out of the house, and the 2 outbuildings have been converted to a
youth/event facility and a facility for our community free clothing store and
food bank. We began our Giving Campaign (The Best Is Yet To Come) in February
2009, and are working to pay off the land and begin building a permanent church
facility on the property.
In July 2008, Pastor Cliff Williams was diagnosed
with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) and officially resigned as Senior Pastor May
31, 2009. He went home to be with the Lord February 18, 2010.
David
Underwood, his wife Lisa, and their family moved to Nampa in September
2010, from Kent, Washington, to begin serving as senior
pastor of The Rock.
We are excited about what God is going to continue to do in and through The Rock, and we believe that
The Best Is Yet To Come!
